Designed to be reliable, simple, and rugged, basic components of engine are tubular-wall thrust chamber, direct-drive turbopump, gas generator, and controls; F-1 engine weighs 17,500 lb; development test program and design modification; gas generator and controls; Saturn C-1 booster with 8 Rocketdyne H-1 engines is applicable to clustering of 5 F-1's that will produce 7.5 million lb of thrust for Saturn C-5 vehicle; clustering problems now being solved.
