Vessels were converted from narrow cabined short haul automobile ferries, with double end Diesel electric drive, to de luxe type, single end, high speed ships; they are each 257 × 66 × 13 ft draft aft; machinery consists of 8-cyl trunk piston, 2-cycle Busch-Sulzer Diesel, Model 8 DAMT de livering 2800 hp at 240 rpm.
