Reclamation program initiated by Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad, wherein older freight and passenger friction type axles of 5 1/2-in. by 10-in. size were reforged to make roller bearing axles; methods used in reclaiming axles; since initial program was begun 2 yr ago, 246 axles have been inspected and 154 or 62.6% have been found to be suitable for reclamation; microphotographs given.
