After preliminary discussion of modes of vibration usually met with in ships, author offers simple method of determining period of vertical vibration; attention is confined to vibrations of first degree, i.e., two-node type; influence of entrained water considered in relation of vessel's waterline length and use of formula proposed by Cole for this mass of water; to solve elastic equation of vibration method is used based upon funicular polygon.
