Protection of rails against wear and corrosion, rail fractures; conclusions drawn from experiences in manufacture of rails and in their behavior in service; comparatively low carbon percentage and proportional percentage of manganese are important factors for obtaining close grain; rails of normal steel containing about 6% of copper may give good service in tunnels.
