Belt Railway Co, of Chicago, operates 455 mi of track in Chicago area, connecting directly with 32 different railway companies at 69 junctions; to expedite handling heavy trains between its various yards and connections with other railways, three diesel-electric locomotives have been obtained; built by Alco Products Inc at Schenectady, new units are based on builders' Century 424 design, modified to requirements of Belt Railway; feature is high axle loading of 34 (United States) tons; prime mover is one Alco Series 251 45° V-type 16-cyl 4-cycle diesel engine.
