Approaches directed towards describing human operator as controller are divided into study of perceptual-motor-behavior as performed by general or engineering psychologist, and application of mathematical models based on control theory to description of human operator; purpose of present study was to determine whether or not these different approaches to tracking research, applied to tank turret control, anti aircraft gunnery, aircraft and spacecraft control, are concerned with same problems and, if so, to attempt to point out most useful aspects of each.
