Investigation was carried out to study effect of shoulder striping upon placement of vehicles under different visibility conditions; observations were taken during both daylight and nighttime hours; only vehicles considered uninfluenced by other traffic as to their normal lateral position on highway were recorded; study location selected was on Interstate 80, east of Wamsutter, Wyo; total of 6080 passenger vehicles and 931 commercial vehicles were recorded during study; 30° diagonal striping seemed to be superior to other striping patterns tested.
