Relationships between various types of traffic accidents and various geometric elements of expressway are established; relationships between several types of accidents and weather, pavement surface, and light conditions are examined; causes of accidents, property damages, and accident distributions are cited; geometric designs of freeway as related to types of accident are analyzed; geometric features of through lanes, interchange, junction of interchange ramps and through lanes, exit ramp, and entrance ramp are evaluated to establish correlations between accidents and geometric designs; recommendations for improving or revising geometric designs of various features on freeway.
