Study of accident causes made at California Institute of Transportation and Traffic Engineering at Los Angeles, using device called "driving simulator"; three current research projects are summarized -- studies concerning individual prediction of accidents and violations, and driver education; automobile collision experiments undertaken to provide reliable data on dynamics of vehicle deformation, and related injuries to motorists, which result from more common types of automobile collisions; and psychology of trip geography factors, such as distances, logical stopping places and road conditions, trip planning and performance habits of drivers.
