In 1966 UK-3 International Ionospheric Satellite will be launched by Scout rocket from Wallops Island, Va; design problems are examined with reference to thermal problems; thermal analysis is divided into evaluation of thermal inputs to body, for range of orbits and attitudes to be considered, analysis of exchange processes taking place within and about body, and thermal analysis proper, that is, computation of temperature-time histories of various components within vehicle; general features and design of UK-3 which will carry five experiments into circular orbit at 600 km altitude; experimental verification of thermal predictions.
