One of design conditions for solid propellant rocket motors is that of inertia loading due to long term storage at 1 g, or acceleration in short time to high g; paper investigates structural integrity for inertia loading of long, bonded, thick-walled cylinder, and includes parametric considerations of rocket diameter, web fraction, inertia g-level, and reduced burnout time, as well as employing typical propellant properties and allowing for various burning rates of eroding boundary; by assuming maximum shear strain failure criterion, design envelope is obtained expressing interaction among various parameters.
