Progress in improvement of airplane engines demonstrated in test conducted by Wright Aeronautical Corp with Whirlwind 7-cyl air-cooled radial engine of 285 hp; results indicate that limiting features preventing much greater than 400 hr between overhauls are: need of regrinding exhaust valves, and amount of dirt introduced into engine through carburetor and lubricating oil.
