Escher Wyss developed modern hydraulically operated controllable-pitch propeller from Kaplan turbine in 1934, and at present more than 500 installations are in service, some with power input exceeding 21,000 hp propeller; design features and reasons for them are discussed, and diagram shows components of propeller and adjusting system; in addition, diagrams show six schematic arrangements including hypothetical all-purpose installation, double-ended, father and son, diesel electric installations, etc.
