Review of trends of thought in shock and vibration engineering over past 10 to 15 yr reveals many questions to which only partial answers are available; description of application of simulation of environment and of random noise theory and factors to consider in analysis of missile vibration data; future needs with respect to refined theory and data reduction are indicated.
