Development of simple ultrasonic technique which is used by Ministry of Aviation on production rocket motors is described; case-bonding on solid-propellant rocket motors can be tested with pulsed ultrasonic flaw detector; separation is indicated by increase in number of multiple echoes from case; fully automatic scanning and recording system is outlined, and expression derived for maximum speed of test; examination of motors with plastic lining between propellant and case is also discussed; technique can be applied to any type of case-bonded motor.
