New automated marshalling yard for Eastern Region of British Railways is over 2 mi long and up to 1/4 mi wide, contains nearly 60 mi of track and can handle up to 4000 cars/day; there are 11 reception lines, with capacities of between 59 and 74 standard cars each, together with hump engine return line and engine line linking with servicing depot.
