Paper outlines need for test code for strength of school bus bodies by examination of several factors leading up to such request by National Conference on School Bus Transportation in 1954; concept of code and its purpose as developed by School Bus Body Mfrs Assn is explained; static load test code developed presents method of ascertaining deflection of body at several points to be used as reference in school bus body specifications for purpose of restricting maximum limits of deflection of roof assemblies, side wall and floor assemblies and as design standard base without limitations of material types, material gages, or structural sectional shapes.
