Within such families, same chassis and power train components used to power various calibers of self-propelled artillery pieces and tracked wrecker are found; another family comprises armored personnel carriers, command post vehicles, mortar, missile equipment, and tracked ammunition carriers, and is built around components of M113 armored personnel carrier; series of five-ton trucks is built around M39A2 chassis with supercharged multifuel LDS-465 engine; principle of engine design, known as variable compression ratio (VCR), which is subject to research and development for application to new main battle tank is described.
