Survey of recent investigations conducted at Institute for Aerospace Studies on gas flows at high temperatures and pressures; theoretical and experimental results are presented on dissociated and ionized corner-expansion flows. Gladstone-Dale constants in oxygen and local, oxygen-atom concentration measurements using catalytic-noncatalytic probe in hypersonic free-stream; in implosion-driven hypervelocity launcher, explosive-driven, stable, spherical implosion waves have been produced; difficulties in overcoming projectile-integrity problem arising from very high accelerations and losses arising from radiation, ablation and friction, are now under study.
