Portable unit described uses hydraulic drive to turn 12 mm increment borer into trees to obtain larger samples for wood studies; borer uses hydraulic drive principle and consists of small hydraulic motor as increment borer remote driver, connected to hydraulic pump through 3/8 in. × 20 ft pressure hoses; pump is driven by lightweight 4-hp gasoline engine; unit is mounted on cart fabricated from 1/2 in. conduit, angle iron, and two surrey wheels.
