Method involves removable stanchions fitting into floor sockets and brackets welded to car's side plates which are structural members at junctions of sides and roof; arrangement is such that one stanchion secures each stack of packages placed transversely in car ends and eight secure four stacks loaded longitudinally along car's center line in 16 ft doorway area; end loading patterns produce transverse balance in car body; nonskid floor is same as that used on aircraft carriers and is coated with polyurethane resin containing ground glass particles.
