Review of development of passenger terminals since 1926; survey of Federal Airport Agency shows that in communities where annual volume of passengers is approximately 100,000, peak hour passenger figure was about 80; in large cities where annual volume of passengers is 4 million, more or less, peak hour passenger figure was about 1600; terminal buildings must separate landside and airside facilities and reduce passenger walking distances; features of Dulles International Airport are described; terminal building has two levels with fingers extending to aircraft loading positions; mobile lounges are used for transfer to aircraft through covered passage.
