Phenomenon of clear air turbulence and details of HICAT program, carried out by U S Air Force and Lockheed using sensor-equipped research aircraft and ground station; aircraft contains equipment for making analog oscillograph (time-history) record of flight which is examined to evaluate flight from aspects of structural safety; satisfactory measurement of data and indication of HICAT encounter; nature of turbulence; development of power-spectral gust design procedure, model of turbulence being used, its correlation with available measurements, and response characteristics of L-2000 airplane to this model are presented.
