Root locus method is extended to two parameter problems by partitioning characteristic equation in even- and odd-powered polynomials that are then manipulated into root locus form; " stability curve" method presented simplifies system analysis and permits logical choice of numerical values for adjustable parameters; thus ready solution is obtained for problems that are cumbersome by conventional methods; method can be applied to some nonlinear systems to predict existence, frequency, and amplitude of limit cycles.
