Problem of utilization of charcoal suction gas for road vehicles in France during past 20 yr is considered in its true perspective; as example of facilities accorded to users for production of charcoal, "Magnein" carbonizing oven, one of oldest in use, is described; reference made to running of bus on charcoal suction gas between Paris and suburban town of Fontenay, 20 1/2 mi away.
