Vessel was designed by Port Commissioners for berthing duties and built at Hessle yard of Richard Dunston Ltd; as local practice for berthing tugs is mainly pushing, bow was made very bluff, and hardwood pad fitted around stem as bed for coir fender weighing 5 1/ 2 tons; length oa 124 ft 7 in., breadth molded 31 ft, depth molded 16 ft, draft 13 ft, displacement 680 tons; two 8-cyl B and W engines each develop 900 bhp at 310 rpm.
