Turning characteristics and offtracking behavior of single-unit trucks and trailer combinations are of interest in design of highway curves, city street turns, etc; research carried out by Bureau of Public Roads to develop method of calculating off-tracking; offtracking values were obtained with vehicles making turns on turning radii varying from 25 to 225 ft; individual vehicle offtrackings are influenced by degree of turn, length of vehicle wheelbase, and turning radius; results obtained are presented on two charts for 90° and 270° turns which permit rapid determination of offtracking for single unit and combination vehicles.
