For near satellite reentry velocities effects of inclusion of multicomponent air model or finite vibrational relaxation rate in viscous shock layer equations were studied, and it was found that maximum increases in heat-transfer rates for these modifications were 6 and 7% respectively; increases in heating rates are considered small for engineering purposes and do not justify use of these more sophisticated formulations; effects of preceding formulations on catalytic wall heating rates were found to be negligible.
