Control problems include capture maneuvers for Earth entry velocities up to 70,000 fps, capture maneuvers for Mars entry velocities up to 40,000 fps, and skip-out control to parking orbit at Mars; using flight simulator, results were obtained for both automatic and piloted-guidance systems which indicate that for Earth entry velocities of 70,000 fps with lift-to-drag ratio 1.0 vehicle, there is approximately 1-sec interval within which roll maneuver must be initiated to insure capture without exceeding 10-g acceleration limit; other findings.
