Three targets for major extensions of manned spaceflight are large, permanent, manned space facility which would make possible whole new ranges of experiments, investigations, and operations; initial exploratory lunar landings with permanent exploitation of Moon; and extension of lunar-landing experience to near planets, with manned surface exploration of Mars as goal; two major program decisions must be made if any of these objectives are to be realized, namely, application and extension of current Apollo systems to family of orbital and lunar missions outside framework of initial manned lunar landing and scientific program of planetary exploration based on unmanned space craft.
