Reconditioning steamship Ward and converting it into motor ship has been completed at Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Co.; length o.a. 411 ft. 9 in.; molded beam 55 ft.; gross tonnage 6203; service speed 12.3 knots; main engine of single-acting, two-cycle, air injection type manufactured by Busch-Sulzer Bros.; there are 6 cylinders with 30-in. bore and 52-in. stroke, developing 3950 b.hp. at 104 r.p.m.; sixth of eight Shipping Board vessels to be Dieselized.
