General lines along which improvements in efficiency and higher cylinder output are being attained; large outputs will be effected in future by 2-cycle double-acting system; it is much more difficult to prophesy development of small and medium-sized marine Diesel engine; there is not only competition between 4-cycle and 2-cycle but pre-ignition chamber system is being applied with increasing cylinder performances. Paper read at World Power Conference in Berlin, 1930.
