New process employed at rail mill of Colorado Fuel and Iron Corp, Pueblo, Colo, to obtain uniformity of pattern, location and hardness in end hardening of rails; process is automatically controlled throughout and employs series of Selas radiant burners under which rail ends pass on hydraulic conveyor system; hardening unit consists of series of five burners and air quenching device under which rail ends are posiitoned for predetermined periods of time.
