Exploratory experiments conducted in Baltimore and Ohio's Barr Yard at Blue Island, Ill, demonstrate that commercial television equipment may have practical application in railroad yard operations; tests included taking car numbers from freight cars on inbound yard leads, overseeing general yard operations from atop yard tower, and inspecting running gear on cars.
