Review of present position and future outlook; importance of blade diameter is stressed; experience indicates that engine powers up to 6000 hp can be handled by contra-rotation, between 2400 and 6000 hp mark there will have to be increase in number of blades, introducing 8-blade (double four) and 10-blade airplane propellers; in not-too-distant future contrarotating airplane propellers will be driven through 2-speed reduction gears, and will be equipped to operate as brake.
