In certain areas transportation by inland waterways competes with pipe lines, tankers, rail, and truck methods, largely due to application of new methods to barge, towboat, and terminal operations, wtih resultant increased efficiency of equipment; resume of barge developments; towboats for inland waterways; advances in propelling machinery; terminals and pumping facilities.
