Quantitative analytic evaluation of interaction between ship and screw propeller, especially of forces involved in "thrust deduction", although in principle solved by Dickmann, still meets some difficulty in practice; experimental investigations must be guided by theory based on source and sink concept; basic problem of influence of scale effect on thrust deduction approximately solved by assuming same deduction coefficient for large model and ship.
