Analysis is made of some measures which improve adhesion of locomotive wheels to rails, such as equalization of axle load, flat characteristic curve of speed vs traction, damping of electric motor torque pulsations, fine gradual control of traction force, and automatic slip brake properly adjusted to adhesion conditions; results of start tests of locomotive on 5% grade are presented and discussed.
