Diesel-electric switching engines for Kiriburu Iron Ore Project in India are described; locomotives were built at Erie, Pa, plant of General Electric Co; three-axle locomotives are for use at port to haul ore trains for loading vessels carrying iron ore to Japan; locomotives are rated at 660 bhp, of which 600 hp is available for traction, and are designed for multiple-unit operation; adoption of fixed wheelbase arrangement provides simple and robust locomotive suitable for operation over sharp curves.
