Changes, potential gains and problem areas of integrated circuits are discussed, in particular as they affect aerospace avionic subsystems; it is reported that by 1980, integrated circuitry will have largely replaced use of discrete components, and rate-of-increase of application curves will level off; integration of associated circuitry with transducers and antennas; impact of digital techniques on sensing devices and instrumentation; discussion of reliability forecast, environmental effects, maintenance and packaging.
