Investigation of accident records of about 300 rural three-way junctions carrying moderate to heavy traffic; results of study showed that accident rate varies as geometric mean of major- and minorroad flows; at heavily-trafficked junctions, accidents involving vehicle turning right out of major road and following vehicle form much smaller proportion of accidents than they are believed to form at less heavily-trafficked junctions; acceleration and deceleration lanes are associated with relatively low percentages of left-turning accidents; system of hypotheses is proposed and suggestions are made for carrying out controlled experiments.
