3-cyl 4-6-0 engines of Jubilee class on London, Midland and Scottish Railway are typical of British medium sized main line locomotives for fast passenger work, and have given good service since their introduction in 1934; two, nos. 5735 Comet and 5736 Phoenix, have lately been improved by addition of larger and more powerful boilers; tractive effort increased from 26,610 to 29,590 lb; differences between old and new boilers are set forth in table.
