Effect of space limitations on spring performance is analyzed and leads to optimum design formulas for three most common types of aircraft springs, i.e., tension, compression, and torsion springs; using formulas thus derived, for given allowable stress relationship between space limitations, maximum load obtainable and corresponding wire size can be found immediately.
