Features of Southern 9000 cu ft open top hopper car; 85,000-lb aluminum car designated Southern 100 is designed expressly for unit-train service for hauling coal; car has eight single-axle trucks on which it rides, new type disk brakes, fast-action bottom discharge doors, newly designed articulated connections, and plastic air piping; articulated units, semipermanently coupled, have transoms at ends to permit uninterrupted loading as car moves past.
