New locks at Courchelettes and Pont-Malin on Dunkirk-Valenciennes canal; basic technical characteristics are given of locks on new large waterway for passage of self-propelled 1350 ton barges or 3000 ton towed barge convoys; locks are designed to negotiate drops of 4. 32 and 4.95 m; Courchelettes lock comprises 144.6 m service length chamber, similar to that of Port-Malin, as well as 91.6 m long second chamber coupled to it; lock and water gates, their drive, control, and safety systems are described.
