Legal and economic considerations involved suggest that minimum vision examination for license to drive should include tests for acuity of vision and visual field; Snellen acuity of 20/40 and visual field of 130° or better appear to be reasonable levels for visual referal and appraisal; review of information on age changes in vision suggests that appropriate time to retest vision of auto drivers would be between ages of 50 and 55.
