Example of New York City is selected to illustrate possible application of STOL (Short Takeoff and Landing) aircraft technology to alleviate staggering problems of metropolitan transportation; several reasons are enumerated to show why exploitation of STOL aircraft in New York area should be considered; some of New York's deteriorating water front area could be used to develop designed strips long enough to accommodate STOL aircraft now available; layout of STOL port plan for waterfront is shown and operational proposals are made relating to landing distances, gradients of climb and approach, runway length, etc.
