Modern airplanes use soft engine mountings which provide better attenuation of engine-induced vibrations and lower cabin vibration levels; penalty paid for less vibration is large engine motions during starting and stopping which must be controlled; LM Damper, developed by Lord Mfg Co is engine motion control device reducing engine movement during starting and stopping without affecting isolation characteristics of mounting system during flight; results of tests are presented.
