Paper describes basic studies and developments for ATC automation system that will be implemented at Tokyo Area Control Center with its initial operation in 1968; real-time computer data processing system has been adopted for first phase of automation; particular emphasis has been placed on system-reliability and man-machine interface; simulation study with actual traffic data has been carried out for evaluating system operations.
